Courtyard House, San Francisco, CA
A full gut renovation and addition to a previously expanded residence, reconfigured into a three-level, six-bedroom multi-generational home organized around the original courtyard. A street-level garage with an integrated elevator was tunneled into the underlying rock beneath the house, with cantilevered weathering steel steps to minimize disruption to the Serpentine rock face.
Driving parameters included a rigorous “Healthy Home” approach modeled on the Living Building Challenge Red List, alongside robust acoustical and mechanical measures.
