Treasure Island C2.3, San Francisco, CA
Treasure Island, which sits between San Francisco and the East Bay, was built for the 1939 Golden Gate International Exposition. The City of San Francisco is in the process of redeveloping the island based on SOM’s Redevelopment Master plan. Parcel 2.3, designated as condos, was part of the Phase 1 cohort of projects, with a concept phase mirroring a studio design process led by SOM to develop unique projects with a responsive, collective, and rich neighborhood.
The building’s form grew from the idea of a barrier island, and consisted of a large “windbreak” building to shelter a courtyard and smaller, pedestrian-way facing volumes.
Project Type: New Construction; 6-story Type 1B with 80 condo units, 180,000 sf. Part of Phase I of the transformative re-development of Treasure Island.
